We first met the George family in May 2017, when the entire family came over from South-Africa for a Look and See trip. Darren, Stacey and their two lovely girls Penny (5) and Josy (3), decided to take a big step and move to the Netherlands.
Since Penny was already 5 years old, we did not only had to find the family a house, but more important, we had to find a proper school for Penny. We agreed that we first would find Penny a school and after that, we would try to find a house for the family in the near presence of the chosen school. The family had two options: either Penny would go to an international school, or she would go to a Dutch school. During the Look and See trip, we planned meetings at several international schools and one meeting with a Dutch Montessori School. And guess what? After giving it some thought, the family decided to send Penny to the Dutch school! Of course, this decision depended on a lot of different elements, but during our visit Darren and Stacey saw how Penny opened herself up at the Montessori and they immediately felt this was the right place for their daughter. One other convenient thing was that we were able to find a house within walking distance of Penny’s school that suited all the families requests. We made an offer the owner couldn’t refuse and when it got accepted, everything fell into place for the George family, and for us as well!
After the Look and See trip, it seemed like the majority of the relocation process was being taken care of, but this was just the beginning. We had a house and we had a school, but now we had to check the rental agreement, organize the move of the family’s personal belongings and apply for residence permits. And after the arrival of the family in September, the registration formalities continued. We assisted them with opening a bank account, with the registration in the municipality, with the application for a BSN, with the application for a health insurance, child benefit and with the exchange of their South-African driver’s license into a Dutch version.
Right now, the George family is completely settled in the Netherlands and both of their girls are really enjoying their time here. We did our utmost to make their transition to the Netherlands go as smooth as possible and this resulted in a pleasant relocation process, both for the George family and for Relocation Care.
